Harrison EatonMedia Intern The Icepack will lace up the skates three times this weekend as they will face Liberty Division II on Friday 11/6 at @6:30 PM, Liberty Division II again on Saturday 11/7 at @6:30 PM, and Coastal Carolina on Sunday 11/8 at @1:30 PM.
The Icepack is looking to bounce back after facing a high-caliber Liberty Division 1 team after falling by a score of 7-2. Don’t let the score deceive you; the guys in red and white played a strong, competitive, and fast hockey game against the best opponent they’ve ever taken the ice with. The Icepack’s leading goal scorers in Chris Solomon (#27) and Colby Pederson (#28) will look to lead the talented offense into the weekend to generate opportunities to put the puck past the goalie. A huge addition to the defense in recent weeks is the return of Cam Mazikowski (#18). He is coming off of an injury in the offseason and returned to practice last week and immediately found his footing in the lineup. Mazikowski joins an already stacked blue line with Victor Hugo(#29), Ian O’Rourke (#28), and Devin Halko (#24). All three of the Icepack goaltenders played well against the Flames DI team and will all see lots of ice time this weekend as the team will look to narrow down who will be leading the rotation come January 2021. LIBERTY DIVISION 2 The Flames Division II team had an impressive year last season going 27-4-1 which secured the number 1 seed in regionals. However, this very season is not the start they desired. After dropping a series to the University of Mary’s 0-2-1, they’ll be looking to rebound against the Icepack this weekend.. This will without a doubt be another challenge for the Flames as they gear up for the regular season. On the offensive end, Liberty will be returning their leading point scorer from a season ago in Raleigh native Blake Flanders (#7), who tallied 48 points and a team-leading 33 goals. Luke McFarlane (#19) who totaled 40 points last season in his freshman campaign will add depth to that offense The Flames defense has a completely different look this year than last year. Out of the 7 defenseman from a year ago, 2 are returning - Aaron Partraige (#16), and Max Mitchell (#10). Liberty will return both goalies from a season ago who both split time evenly. Dakota Cyahaniuk (#30) who started 17 games for the Flames, had an unbelievable year going 16-0 with an eye-opening 1.22 GAA and stopping 95% of the shots he faced last season. The other option for Liberty is Adam Partridge (#29) who was between the pipes for 14 games posting an impressive record of 10-3-1, 2.19 GAA, and a save percentage of .929. The two games between these high caliber Division II teams will be a sneak peek as to what is to come out of the season for both of these clubs. COASTAL CAROLINA This will be the very first meeting between these two teams. Coastal Carolina is the newest addition to the ACCHL D2 family, and will be the final game of the weekend for the Icepack.
