Harrison EatonMedia Intern Last night, the N.C. State Icepack was defeated by the Liberty Flames with a final score of 7-2.
“I thought we played hard, that’s all you can hope for. I feel like everyone really contributed to the max of their abilities,” said Icepack forward Colby Pederson. “Going against a D1 team like that is pretty difficult, but we really held our own and I’m really proud of our boys.” The first period was a fun one to watch. The Icepack and the Flames came out physical and intense with multiple scoring opportunities, hard hits, and great goalie play on both sides. You could feel the intensity of the first period whether you were in the arena or watching online. The Icepack were able to take the #2 team in Division 1 ACHL into the locker room tied at 0-0. Liberty came out quick at the start of the second. Finding the back of the net twice in the first minute and 20 seconds. The goals were scored in a blink of an eye in between each other which in turn opened the flood gates for the Flames. They went on to score 3 more goals in the second period to go to the intermission with a 5-0 lead over the Icepack. Things got physical in the third period. Lots of pushing and shoving, big hits, and a couple of penalties handed out but that didn’t stop either team from scoring twice in the period. The Icepack were able to cut the deficit to 6-1, courtesy of Colby Pederson (#26). Later in the period, Icepack sophomore Chris Solomon (#27) was able to net one to score the final goal of the game to make it 7-2. The Icepack had a lot of positives to take away from the game. We saw great signs from all three of our goalies with impressive saves all game long. We also saw some great passing to create scoring opportunities, especially in the first period. Despite the 5 goal deficit they faced for the majority of the game, the Icepack never gave up. The team will regroup and set their sights onto their next match against Liberty’s D2 team on November 5th.
