Raleigh, NC - The NC State Icepack will travel to Bismarck, North Dakota this week to compete for the 2021 ACHA Division 2 National Title. This season the Icepack went 10-6-1 including big victories over other nationals qualifiers Florida Gulf Coast, Liberty, and East Texas Baptist while also being crowned ACCHL champions for the 2021 season.
While the accomplishments are vast, the ultimate challenge now begins. The Icepack has been given the #8 seed overall and the #2 seed in Pool A. The Icepack are joined by the #1 seed University of Mary (Bismarck, North Dakota), #9 seed University of Providence (Great Falls, Montana), and the #16 seed Davenport University (Grand Rapids, Michigan) in Pool A.
The boys will kick things off this weekend by playing the #9 seed University of Providence on Thursday, April 15th at 1 PM CENTRAL 2 PM EASTERN. The Argonauts come into the tournament with a 6-8 record which includes 7 games against the top-seeded University of Mary which resulted in a 1-6 record. Providence without a doubt is not lacking experience against top competition and are poised to be a potential threat to the Icepack. You can watch the battle between these 2 mid seeded teams on HockeyTV at 1 PM Central 2 PM Eastern.
On Friday, April 16th at 1 PM CENTRAL 2 PM EASTERN the Icepack will lace up the skates to face the #16 seed, Davenport University. The Wildcats of Davenport posted a 6-4-1 record in the regular season, all against non-conference opponents including a 7-0 loss against Lindenwood who is the only other ACHA D2 Nationals qualifier on their schedule. The boys will look to come out with a win in this matchup as they head into the final game of pool play against what will be one of the toughest opponents the Icepack have faced in 2021. Again, you can watch the battle between these 2 mid seeded teams on HockeyTV at 1 PM Central 2 PM Eastern.
The final game of pool play will be against the overall top seed University of Mary on Saturday, April 17th at 7 PM CENTRAL 8 PM EASTERN. The Marauders finished their 44 game season with an impressive 33-4-6-1 with a whopping 19-2-3 record against other ACHA D2 National qualifiers. The University of Mary took home Coach Of The Year Dan Huntley, Player Of The Year Zach Garrett #21, and 3 D2 All-Americans in Zach Garrett, Johnny Witzke, and Kyle Hayden this past week and will be a serious threat to add one more trophy to their case at the end of the tournament. You can watch the Icepack take on the Mauraders at 7 PM Central 8 PM Eastern on Saturday, April 17th live from North Dakota on HockeyTV.
