The Icepack’s impressive undefeated streak finally came to an end in a 6-5 shootout loss to UNC-Chapel hill this past Friday. UNC opened the scoring first just over three minutes into the game, but did not hold the lead for long. The Icepack would go on to score four unanswered goals before the end of the first period, with goals from Scott Daniel, Daniel Prazma, Reese Johnson, and newly appointed NC State Assistant Captain, Joey Gouveia. The second period contained less turnovers from NC State, but UNC was still able to maintain the majority of puck possession throughout. UNC recorded two goals before NC State was able to find the back of the net again with a goal from Holden Koufman, ending the period 5-3 in NC State’s favor.
The third period was a very even matchup, with both teams recording good looks and goal opportunities. UNC had the edge in the end, recording a power play goal and even strength goal to even the score 5-5 at the end of the third. NC State was unable to beat UNC netminder, Lucas Brown overtime, but Isacc Tawyer was able to backstop the team and survive till a shootout. UNC took home the win in the shootout, ending NC State’s undefeated streak in their eighth game of the season. The Icepack look to get back in the win column this weekend, with three home games. The Icepack will face the University of New Hampshire on Friday, Bowling Green State University on Saturday, and end with the University of Louisville on Sunday.
