NEWARK, Del. – NC State opened its weekend series against Delaware with a 4-2 win Saturday night at Gold Ice Arena.
BOX SCORE | SKATER STATS The Icepack’s first overnight road trip of the season began with a scoreless first period despite several power-play opportunities for both teams. Delaware scored the first goal of the night 5:38 into the second period, but NC State evened the score on a power-play goal from Aidan Raedy, assisted by Holden Koufman, with 23 seconds left in the period. The Blue Hens regained the lead early in the third, but Koufman responded with his first goal of the season – and second point of the night – off an assist from Jake Gifford. Mason Payne added his first point for the Icepack on a quick shot set up by Reece Johnson and alternate captain Joey Gouveia. Jack Ammons sealed the win with an empty-net goal on the power play with 28 seconds remaining, his second of the season. Goaltender Ethan Roberts was a steady presence in the net, stopping 38 of 40 shots. NC State also killed all six of Delaware’s power plays. The Icepack and Blue Hens play again on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at Gold Ice Arena to close out the series.
