LOUISVILLE, KY. – NC State beat Louisville in a high-scoring game on the Cardinals' senior night. There were six different goal scorers, and Reece Johnson recorded his first hat trick.
BOX SCORE | SKATER STATS | WATCH THE REPLAY Holden Koufman opened the scoring for the Icepack just 90 seconds in, assisted by Nick Librizzi and Erik Dahlin. Joey Gouveia scored with 6:20 remaining and Jake Gifford scored NC State’s final goal of the period off of Zach Herman’s rebounded shot to go into intermission 3-0. Jack Ammons scored the first goal of the second period in less than a minute, with Johnson following after him 10 seconds later to make it 5-0. Johnson’s second goal of the period came five minutes into the frame, as he spun with his own rebounded shot to create space and send the puck into the net. Ben Paterson scored NC State’s fourth goal of the period, wrapping around the back of the net after a pass from Nick Shook. Louisville scored its only goal of the game in the third period, but Johnson responded with his third goal of the night to record a hat trick minutes after. Goaltender Ethan Roberts stopped 20 shots to support NC State’s dominant performance. The Icepack split the weekend series with the Cardinals and finished second in the ACC South. The Icepack engaged from the beginning of the game and played cohesively in a team effort to secure a big win on Louisville’s Senior Night. The last regular-season road trip for NC State, the Icepack returns to Invisalign Arena on Thursday to celebrate its own Senior Night and honor Herman, Gouveia, Librizzi and Isaac Tawyer before the postseason starts.
