The NC State Icepack ended the Stephen Russell Memorial Tournament with a win over Bowling Green State University, an overtime loss to Louisville, and a regulation loss to the University of New Hampshire The first of the Icepacks matchups for the tournament was against the University of New Hampshire, which was expected to be the toughest matchup of the weekend. Icepack’s captain Zach Herman gave the team it’s first goal just 32 seconds after the initial puck drop, followed by UNH tying the score just three minutes later. Halfway through the period, a powerplay goal from Daniel Prazma would give the pack a 2-1 lead heading into the first intermission. After a scoreless second period, UNH would score three unanswered goals in the third, and even with a goal from Brooks Willoughby-Ray, the Icepack would fall 4-3 in the end. The second of the Icepack’s matches in the tournament was a blowout 7-0 win against Bowling Green State University. Icepack Freshman Daniel Strong would record his first goal of the season, as well as a hat-trick and an assist in his four point performance. Nick Shook Recorded two goals and an assist in the game, and Holden Koufman managed to record three assists on the night as well. Scott Daniel and Thomas Mceneny also each recorded a goal, with Mceneny’s being the first of the season for him. The final game for NC State in the tournament was against Louisville, which was the most physical matchup of the weekend by far. Louisville recorded three goals in the first period, but a powerplay goal from Zach Robinson, his first of the year, would give the Icepack some life going into the end of the first down 3-1. 10 seconds into the second period, Herman would feed Prazma for a great backhand to score the only goal of the second period from either team. Prazma would be fed by Herman again in the third period, as well as recording another powerplay goal to finish off his hat-trick, but Louisville scoring in 4-4 would take the game to overtime. Louisville’s captain would score just 26 seconds into overtime, ending the game 4-3. NC State now goes on to face Penn State back to back at home Friday and Saturday, with Friday’s game being Raleigh Testicular Cancer Foundation Night.
