MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – NC State defeated West Virginia 4-3 in overtime Friday night in the first game of the weekend series.
BOX SCORE | SKATER STATS West Virginia opened the scoring before freshman Gian Khani put the Icepack on the board with 2:53 remaining in the first period, tying the game. The goal marked Khani’s first career point and was assisted by Erik Dahlin. Zach Herman scored an unassisted goal late in the second period to even the score again after the Mountaineers regained the lead earlier in the frame. Reece Johnson, assisted by Dahlin for his second helper of the night, scored shortly after to give the Icepack a 3-2 advantage heading into the second intermission. West Virginia tied it less than a minute into the third period, and regulation ended tied at three, sending the game to sudden-death overtime. Jack Ammons scored the game-winner on an unassisted breakaway with 27 seconds remaining in overtime to secure the victory for NC State. The Icepack faces West Virginia again Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at Hope Gas Ice Pavilion before returning home.
