RALEIGH, N.C. – The Icepack is heading to Delaware for the second time this season, this time for the playoffs.
The University of Delaware is hosting the ACCHL playoffs this year, with all but one of the games set to be played at Fred Rust Arena. This is the only season in which winning the championship does not result in an automatic bid to Nationals. NC State will compete for the championship in its first season as a Division I team against seven other teams. The Icepack has previously faced four of them: Delaware, Kentucky, Louisville and UNC. Three unfamiliar teams – Pittsburgh, Syracuse and Stony Brook – will also compete. NC State split the series with Louisville on its last road trip and has beaten UNC three of four times, including a shutout in both teams’ most recent game. The Icepack has also defeated Alabama in three of four meetings this season. Stony Brook, with a record of 14-12-3, is the third-ranked team in the North. Pittsburgh holds a 15-12-2 record overall, including a 10-5-1 tally in ACC play, and is the tournament’s top-seed. Syracuse is 10-19-1 and enters as the North’s fourth seed. The Icepack enters the postseason at 19-11-1 and is the second seed in the South. NC State opens play on Friday at 11 a.m. against Delaware, which is 18-12-4 this season and the North’s No. 3 seed. The Icepack split its October series with the Blue Hens. The second scheduled series in January was canceled due to inclement weather and a power outage at Invisalign.
